REFLECTION ON THE ELUL RETREAT

Twenty-seven of us gathered at this year’s Elul Retreat for an inspiring 44 hours as we prepared ourselves for the upcoming High Holy Days. Our gratitude to the leaders, Rabbi Andrew Hahn and Metivta teachers Evelyn Baron and Lyle Poncher: they held a sacred space for us to join in silence as we meditated, studied Torah, chanted, prayed, and learned together. We struggled with our inner dramas and rested together in an intimate spiritual circle. We had an unforgettable evening of Kirtan with Rabbi Andrew, who called out the names of God to us in both Hebrew and English prayer and taught us how to join in the cosmic symphony as we returned his call. The quiet of the retreat center coupled with the depth of the teachings was truly a gift along our path.

Yasher Koach to the retreat leaders and to each of you who were there to help create a nourishing Shabbat weekend.

HIGH HOLIDAYS 2012

We have a vision: On our personal journey through the Days of Awe, the Yamim Noraim, we will each discover our innermost truth. This is the mysterious opportunity of the High Holy Days.

Every year we strive to bring new dimension and depth to our services. This year, we are happy to welcome Rabbi Andrew Hahn, the Kirtan Rabbi. He will be leading our Erev Rosh Hashanah Service. As always, all of our services will be an eclectic and rich mix of prayer, contemplation, chant, teaching, movement and silence. On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, we will hold our traditional Chant and Meditation Service.

Services will be held at the Olympic Collection in West Los Angeles. Register now by downloading and filling out the registration form; please email completed registration forms to caroleann@metivta.org (please include "2012 High Holidays Registration" in the subject line). This form includes sponsorship opportunities, as well as the Yizkor Book of Remembrance application.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation in addition to your ticket registration. Like every non-profit today, our costs are rising. Though the cost of holding these services has increased, no person is ever turned away from Metivta for lack of funds. We thank you in advance for your additional support.

Join us this year. Our journey together will be challenging, but filled with great joy and the opportunity for a profound and transformative spiritual experience.
